Michael House provides move-on supported accommodation for up to twenty-seven men and women, re-housed by referrals from agencies and direct access, with priority when possible given to 18/25 year olds.
Residents are assisted with education and training with a view to successful rehabilitation within the community.

Status : Homeless Men or Woman Aged 18 - 65. Residents should be in need of Supported Accommodation and eligible for Housing Benefits.
Interview and Assessment: All potential residents are to attend an interview with the Manager of the house to determine whether Michael House is suitable for their needs. During this interview clients will be asked to complete a Needs Assessment. This is done so we are aware of a resident's particular needs prior to moving in.
Interviews can be scheduled by either a referring agency or direct application.
If there is no availability potential residents will be held on a waiting list. Once a space becomes available he or she will be contacted for a second interview.
There are a number of reasons why a potential resident will be turned down for a place at Michael House; arson, violence, present alcohol or drug abuse
Duration of stay: The stay at Michael House will be on a weekly basis, providing he or she abides by the rules of the licence agreement, the duration can be up to 6 months.
Care and Support
Michael House operates a 24 hour cover, 7 days a week. All staff are available, if needed within their shift. All residents will also be assigned a Key worker to assist with their support and personal development. Key Working Sessions will be held on a weekly or fortnightly basis, depending on the individual residents requests or needs.
Accommodation
Michael House has the potential capacity for the total of 27 residents. The house has 6 single bedrooms* and 9 double bedrooms, all rooms are fully furnished with fitted hand basins.
The house is now operates a NO SMOKING policy in all commual areas, and now has allocated NO SMOKING rooms.
Bedding is provided and it is the responsibility of the resident to clean on his or her allocated wash day.
* Single rooms are allocated on the decision of the manger.
Communal Areas
* Only for use during allocated times.
All residents are to respect the differences of other residents and to abide by our Equal Opportunities Policy . Copies of this policy are displayed for all to see and will be covered at the point of interview.
Residents should be prepared to engage in different areas of the support offered to them :
Life Skills: For residents who require assistance with numeracy and literacy, staff are happy to assist them with form filling, letter or C.V. writing and reading. If a resident requires assistance with Life Skills, courses and taster workshops at various levels can also be arranged.
Budgeting: A Basic Level of Budgeting is required
All residents are expected to keep up with their Top-up or Rent payments. Direct Debits are arranged to help prevent individuals from falling behind.
The Family Church in Christchurch offers a free Debit Counselling Service to residents at Michael House*
Residents are also encouraged to talk with the Credit Union Bournemouth as they also offer helpful advice*

Cleaning: Basic level of cleaning skills needed.
A cleaning rota is in operation and all residents are allocated at least 1 night to be responsible for ensuring the Kitchen and Dining Room are both clean and tidy.
Residents are also expected to clean up after themselves and not rely on other residents to do it for them.
Cooking: Basic level of cooking skills needed.
Residents are encouraged to cook for themselves and others, supervision is given during Kitchen opening times. Help with food preparation can be incorporated into Key Working Sessions.
Breakfast - Toast and Cereals only
Lunch - Prepared by individual residents.*
Evening meal - A cooked evening meal will be provided 7 days a week and prepared by a member of staff (residents are always encouraged to assist with cooking).

Weekends - A roast lunch will be provided on Sunday instead of an evening meal. Residents evening meal is to be prepared by individual residents.*

Counselling: In-house service, provided by The Listening Ear and Redlands College Community Counselling Service. They offer a free counselling service to the residents either at their premises or at Michael House

Employment: Residents are to attend appointments arranged by the Job Centre.
If residents find themselves employment, they are expected to pay a weekly rental payment for their room and board. This is because they may not be eligible for Housing Benefit and Top-up Payments will also be cancelled.
Residents are encouraged to gain part-time or full-time employment.
*We need to be informed at all times of any changes of circumstances.
Addiction / Recovery Support: When possible, residents are encouraged to visit various outside agencies for extra support with the view to build on the individual's support network for when the time comes to move-on.
Voluntary Work: Michael House works closely with other agencies such as Boscombe Link and 'Volunteer Link'. An informal meeting can be arranged to discuss options.
Education: There are various full-time and part-time college courses available to help people get back to work or even to just learn new skills. If residents don't feel comfortable or ready to commit to further education there is also the option of taster workshops are also available.
This policy will be reviewed by The Trustees. The initial review of effectiveness will take place twelve (12) months after this policy comes into effect, with annual reviews.
