History and Achievements.
Michaels pioneered the first ever night shelter in Dorset
Established as South East Dorset Night Shelter at a public meeting at St.Michael's Church on the 19th March 1992.
Michaels Night Shelter opened on the 18th January 1993 and closed on the 9th September 2002, after giving sanctuary to 5150 guests, including 652 women and 118 children (for a combined total of 67,954 nights) and re-settling 1563.
Michaels Day Centre opened May 22nd 1995 (closed 8th September 2002 having recorded 101,157 admissions).
Big Issue ( Bournemouth ) launched by `Diana Maddock M.P at Day Centre May 1996.
Michaels became a company Limited by Guarantee on the 30th October 1996.
Michael House, purchased by Lottery funding, was opened on 31st July 2000.
Number 46 Grosvenor Gardens , leased from The Valentine Charitable Trust on 6 th April 2004.
Open day October 12th 2005. Attended by the Mayor and Mayoresss of Bournemouth, councellor Ted Taylor BA and Miss Linda Bailey.
